Description of The Temptress aka Black Goddess

The Temptress

is an archetype who is an unscrupulous woman of great seductive charm and intelligence who exploits men and leads them into dangerous situations. Some examples of a Temptress are enchantress, femme fatale, seductress, sirens, vampires, and witches.
Because of her beauty and manipulating ways, the Temptress acts as a distraction in the hero/protagonist's life, she is the reason for his downfall because she tempts the Hero to turn away from his goals, hopes, and dreams and makes him weak.

Mythology/ Fairy tales/ Folk tales/ Legends featuring the Temptress

SIRENS
In Greek mythology, a siren is one of three sea nymphs, they are also known as Temptresses of the sea. A siren is usually represented with the head of a woman and the body of a bird. Sirens lived on an island surrounded by dangerous rocks. Their voices were so beautiful, enchanted, and hypnotizing that when they sang, they would lure in unsuspecting victims who would draw nearer to them and then became shipwrecked. Odysseus; one of the first Greek mythic heroes, encountered and escaped the Sirens by tying himself securely to the mast so he couldn't move, and by blocking his men's ears with wax so they couldn't hear the Siren's beautiful but deadly voices.
Calypso

After his encounter with Scylla and Charybdis, Odysseus eventually ended up on the island of Ogygia, home of Calypso. Calypso is a nymph, seductress, and a Temptress. She tries to seduce Odysseus to stay with her. Calypso imprisons Odysseus with her for seven years and offers him immortality if he would become her husband. Odysseus was far to homesick to stay with Calypso. Finally, Zeus sends Hermes; messenger of the Gods to free Odysseus from the temptress's clutches. Then Odysseus continues his journey back home to Ithaca, where his beloved wife Penelope is still waiting for him.

seduces Lestat into becoming her king.

In the novel "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse, there is a character named Kamala who is a beautiful Courtesan (Prostitute) who lures and seduces unsuspecting men, her actions very similar to a temptress.

Poems Featuring The Temptress

"The Temptress"
by Elizabeth
She struts around in little shirts and tight, leg-hugging pants,An open invitation for those who want to take the chance. She attracts men with her figure and entraps then with her eyes. Her victims fall for her and she begins to tell her lies.
It all began one fateful day, the first he met this girl. She looked at him with widened eyes and set his heart awhirl. She'd take his hand and hold it, say she'd never let it go He held on to her every word, because he loved her so.She'd kiss him and caress him, and tremble at his touch While murmuring she loved him so very, very much. And when she was alone, she'd laugh - things were going well! She had captured this guy's heart and placed him underneath her spell.
All this went on until the day when he called out her Name and looked into her hardened eyes to see they weren't the same.He went home that day with a very broken heart Once again the temptress had acted out her part.
And to this very day, she walks around in little shirts Seducing the unknowing men, not caring who she hurts. But ask any of her victims, for they truly know it well -They'll let you know she'll make your life into a living hell.
